2/2/09 Post Tracheostomy Surgery

The surgery went well today and Kayleigh was surprisingly wide awake shortly after she made it back to her room. The nurses had to administer some pain medication because Kayleigh was starting to get a little irritated throughout the day. The procedure took less than an hour to complete and everything went without a hitch.

Kayleigh is currently coming down on her vent settings and heading back to a normal state. She is doing such a great job through this and we are so proud of her. It was quite overwhelming at first to see Kayleigh with the trach, but I think it really got to me when she was wide awake so soon. We thought she was going to be out for at least the first full day, so when we saw her wiggling around and getting irritated, of course the first thing you think of is that she is pain. But, with her blood pressure looking good and her heart rate not shooting through the roof, she was doing fine. It was good to see nothing in her mouth or the tape strip under her nose that goes across her face.

Thank you everyone for all of your prayers early this morning and throughout the day. It means a lot to us and there is no doubt that with all the prayers delivered, God received them because Kayleigh and the surgeon did one wonderful job through this procedure.

Praise God!

God Bless,
